Is cardboard good for compost?

QUESTION: Is cardboard good for compost?

ANSWER: Cardboard you’re disposing of, including paper towel rolls and toilet paper rolls, is good for composting and counts as a “brown” material rich in carbon. You may wish to shred the cardboard or tear it into smaller chunks when you add it to the compost to encourage it to break down more quickly.

But be careful. It is extremely easy to use too much cardboard and slow down the composting process almost to a stop. One or two boxes shredded up in a compost bin or pretty big pile is fine. More than that is too much.
